Ellora Caterers

Ellora Caterers operates out of 26 P K Tagore Street. It’s an old part of the city near Beadon Street. The building has been there for a long time. We spend most of our hours in the back where the cooking happens. It’s a lot of manual work. We move heavy pots and organize stacks of plates every single day. The street outside is narrow, so loading the vans can be a bit of a struggle sometimes. We have to be quick about it. Most of the staff here live nearby, so we walk to work. We don't have a big fancy office to show people. Usually, someone is just sitting by the phone taking orders or checking the calendar. It gets very busy during the wedding season. We barely have time to sit down then. But when it’s quiet, we just clean up and prep for the next week. The kitchen smells like spices all the time. Sometimes the smell drifts out into the lane. Neighbors sometimes stop by to say hello. We’ve known them for years. It is a very local setup. We don't use any high-tech gadgets, just good old fashioned stoves and big spoons. It’s hard work, but it keeps us going. We are just a small team trying to do our jobs right in this corner of North Kolkata. It's not perfect but it's ours.
