Econo Stores

Econo Stores is our place located in the Atghara neighborhood, specifically near Chinar Park on Rajarhat Road. This part of Kolkata has changed a lot lately with all the new buildings, but we are still here doing our thing. The shop sits right on the main road which means there is a lot of exhaust and noise from the cars and buses going by all day. We sell a variety of things for the house. It's the kind of store where you can find soap, maybe some stationery, or a bag of rice. The shelves are made of simple wood and sometimes they creak a bit when we put new stock on them. We don't have fancy displays or those bright neon signs you see in the malls. It’s just a plain room with stuff people need. During the rains, the road outside gets quite messy, so we end up mopping the floor three or four times a day just to keep the mud out. Most of the people who come in are from the apartments nearby or folks walking home from work. We recognize most of them by sight. It’s not a glamorous job, just standing behind the counter and counting out change. We try to keep things moving so people aren't waiting too long. It is just a regular local shop for the Atghara community, and we like it that way.
