Durga Stores

Durga Stores is located on Canal East Road in Kolkata, not far from Gouri Bari. We are one of those small shops that has been part of the street for as long as I can remember. The area around here stays pretty busy with traffic and people going about their business. Inside the shop, it’s a bit cramped because we try to keep a bit of everything. You’ll find sacks of rice sitting near the entrance and jars of candy on the counter. The walls are lined with soaps, shampoos, and all the usual kitchen stuff. In Kolkata, the humidity can be a bit much, so we keep the door open to get whatever breeze comes from the road. It gets a bit dusty, but we wipe the counters down when we can. Most of our customers are locals who live in the nearby lanes. They come in for their monthly rations or just a packet of tea. We don't have any fancy signs or big advertisements. People just know we are here. Sometimes the stock takes a few days to arrive because of the narrow streets and traffic, but we manage. Running a store like this isn’t about being the best; it’s just about being there when someone needs a kilo of sugar or some matchboxes. It’s a basic life, but it’s ours, right here in 700067. We open up around eight in the morning and stay until late evening most days.
