Our little shop is over on Parsee Church Street, number 18, right near the Calcutta GPO. This part of the city is always a bit of a scramble. The streets are narrow and when it rains, it’s a total mess out there. We are basically a hub for everyone in the area who needs to send something out. Because we are so close to the main post office, there’s always people moving around and looking for directions. The office is small and the walls are covered in old calendars and rate charts. We don't have a lot of room to move, so the packages often end up stacked almost to the ceiling. It gets loud with the horns honking outside and people coming in to ask about their tracking numbers. We just take it in stride and keep working through the pile. It’s a lot of manual work, carrying bags and sorting through piles of envelopes every hour. The light inside isn't the best, but we know where everything is. We don't use any big fancy words to describe what we do here. We just take your package, weigh it on the scale, and make sure it gets on the right truck heading out. It’s a simple business in a very old, crowded part of town. We’ve seen the city change around us over the years, but the work of moving mail stays pretty much the same every single day we are open.
