Bloom Beauty Parlour

The shop is right here in Anurupapally, near the 217B bus stand. We opened Bloom Beauty Parlour because there weren't many places around this part of Prafulla Kanan for women to get their hair done without traveling a long way. Our spot is at Bc 73 and it is a small space on the ground floor. Most mornings, I come in around ten, sweep the front step, and get things ready for the day. The mirrors we use are getting a bit old, but you can still see clearly enough in them. It gets quite busy on weekends when everyone has their time off. People usually come in after they get off the bus from work in the evenings. We have a couple of chairs and a small wooden bench for anyone waiting. It’s not a fancy place, just some basic stuff for threading, wax, and simple hair cuts. The walls are painted a light color, though they have some marks on them now. Sometimes the ceiling fan makes a clicking sound that is a bit annoying, but it keeps the air moving. Kolkata heat is no joke during the summer months. We know most of the ladies who live in the Bc block and the surrounding lanes. They stop by to chat even if they don't need anything done. I keep some magazines on the table, though they are mostly old ones. It's just a regular place where people come to get cleaned up and feel a bit better.
