Amrit Saloon

Jagatpur Bazar, right off VIP Road in Baguihati. The bazaar is a busy place to be, and Amrit Saloon is right in the thick of it. We open up the shutters early in the morning when the vegetable sellers are still setting up. The shop has a couple of chairs and a lot of different bottles of hair oil and creams on the shelves. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze when we have more than two customers, but we make it work. The noise from VIP Road is always there in the background, with the buses and taxis honking. We do a lot of shaves and simple haircuts for the men who live around Jagatpur. The mirrors are old and have some spots on them, but they do the job. We have a small television in the corner that is usually tuned to the news or a cricket match. It gives people something to look at while we work. The floor is always getting covered in hair, so there is a broom leaning against the wall at all times. We don't use any fancy apps or booking systems; you just show up and wait your turn. It is a humble place that has been serving the local people for years. We just focus on giving a decent haircut and keeping the conversation going. On rainy days, the water sometimes leaks a bit near the door.
