Ajanta Saloon

Ajanta Saloon is over in Tanti Para, right on Rajkumar Mukherjee Road in Alambazar. We are pretty close to the Tanti Para More, which is a busy intersection nearby. The shop is tucked away on the street and it’s been there for a good while. You can see the traffic moving past all day long through the front. Inside, it’s just a basic setup with the usual chairs and a few shelves for the powders and creams we use. The floor is made of stone and stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We have a small radio that we play sometimes, mostly for the cricket scores or just some music to fill the silence. The neighbors are good people and sometimes they just pop their head in to say hello. It’s a simple life here in Kolkata. We don’t have fancy decorations or anything like that because it’s not really needed. People just want a place to sit for a few minutes while we do our thing. The mirrors have a few scratches on the edges, but you can still see yourself just fine. Sometimes when it rains, the water splashes up near the entrance, and we have to put a cloth down so nobody slips. It’s just how things are in this part of town. We keep things moving and try to stay busy throughout the week. It is just a normal shop on Rajkumar Mukherjee Road.
