Bajran Stores

Bajran Stores is located at 51/A, Ghosh Para Road in Barrackpore. This road is one of the busiest in the whole area, so there is always a lot of noise from the autos and rickshaws outside. We’ve been here in Ghushipara for quite a while now. The building is a bit cramped, but we’ve managed to fit a lot of stuff into the space we have. I usually arrive in the morning and spend the first hour just moving things out onto the sidewalk so people can see what we have. It’s a lot of dragging and lifting. Barrackpore is a place with a lot of history, but around here, it’s just people trying to get their daily shopping done. I know most of the neighbors by name. Sometimes they just come in to borrow a pen or use the phone because their battery died. I don’t really mind, it’s part of being in a community like this. The walls of the store are lined with wooden shelves that my father put up years ago. They are a bit bent now from the weight of all the jars and packets, but they hold up fine. I try to keep things organized, but on busy days, the place looks like a bit of a mess by evening. I usually close up around nine and then walk home. It’s not a bad life and it keeps me connected to the neighborhood.
