Anglo Swiss Watch Co

This part of Calcutta is full of old history and we are right in the middle of it at 6, BBD Bag. We are very close to the GPO, and you can see the grand old buildings everywhere you look. Our shop feels like it belongs to a completely different time. We have these heavy wooden counters and old glass that has grown a bit scratched over the decades. Anglo Swiss Watch Co has been around for ages. It is nothing like those new shops you see in the modern malls with the bright white lights. In here, it is a bit dim and there is always the sound of ticking. You hear the clocks all day long. Sometimes they all chime at different times and it makes a real racket for a minute. We spend our days leaning over workbenches with those little magnifying glasses stuck in our eyes. It is hard work on the neck and back, but someone has to fix the springs and the tiny hands. The traffic outside is constant with buses honking and people shouting, but once you step inside, the atmosphere changes. We get a lot of regulars, people who brought their watches here thirty years ago. They come back because they know we are still standing. We do not do much advertising at all. People just know the address. Sometimes we run out of a part and have to wait weeks, but that is just how it goes here.
