Over in Lakhimpur, life moves at its own pace, and that is how we like it at Dhaurahara Annadata Producer Company Limited. We use Sri Ram’s place in Basantaspurdhaurahra to keep our things and meet up when the sun goes down. Most of us spend the whole day out in the damp heat of the fields, so by the time we gather, we are pretty tired. Lakhimpur is known for being green, but that green takes a lot of work to maintain. We called ourselves Annadata because that is what farmers are, the ones who provide the grain, but we stay humble about it. There are no big offices here, just some chairs and a table where we try to figure out the transport for our produce. It is a practical arrangement. We don't have any fancy speeches or big goals other than keeping our farms going for another season. It’s hard to get a fair price when you are just one person, so being a group helps us feel a bit stronger. We just do the work, look after the land, and hope for a decent yield when the time comes.
