Srivijaya Stones

Srivijaya Stones is spread across Survey No:87, 88, and 136 in Gopalapuram. We are located via the Collectorate road, which is a fairly well-known route around here. Having three different survey numbers means we have a lot of ground to cover. I spend most of my day walking from one section to the other, checking on the different types of stone we have stored. It’s a lot of granite to keep track of, but we manage. The ground is uneven and covered in gravel and stone scraps. That’s just the nature of the business. We get a lot of trucks coming through because of the space we have. It can get pretty hectic when two or three arrive at the same time. We don't have a fancy office with air conditioning; we mostly stay out where the stones are. I like seeing the different textures of the rocks as they come in from the quarries. Some are rough and dark, others are almost white with little speckles. It takes a bit of work to show people what the finished product will look like, but we have enough samples lying around to give them an idea. Gopalapuram is a good place for us because we’re close enough to the main parts of town but have the space we need for all this weight. It is hard work on the back, but it is what we have done for a long time and we know it well.
