Hinglaj Art & Crafts

Hinglaj Art & Crafts can be found at the Riico industrial area in Boranada, specifically in the first phase. Our plot is H1-116, the G and H section. Out here, the landscape is pretty dry and there’s a lot of open space, though more buildings are going up every year. We have a fairly large area because the kind of art and craft work we do takes up a lot of room. There are sections for cutting, carving, and then the finishing touches. The wind blows a lot of sand around, so we are constantly sweeping the floors. It’s a bit far from the main city of Jodhpur, so it’s a quiet place to work once you get inside the gates. Most of the people working here are locals from the nearby villages. They have been doing this kind of work for generations. We don't have a fancy air-conditioned office. We just have a simple room with a couple of chairs and a table where we handle the orders. Often, you’ll see crates being packed up to be sent away. We don’t really do retail sales from here; it’s more about the production side of things. The sun gets really hot in the afternoon, so we usually start early to get the bulk of the work done before it becomes unbearable. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy. We don’t put on any airs about what we do. We just make things and send them out.
