We’ve set up shop at Flat No 3 in Crystal Villa on Tansa Road. It’s in the Kadma area of Jamshedpur, which is a fairly well-known spot. Operating out of a flat gives our Lafarge India office a bit of a homey feel, even if it is strictly for business. We have desks where the dining table probably used to be. It’s a good location for us because we can keep an eye on things without being right in the middle of a loud industrial zone. We spend a lot of time on the phone, coordinating with sites and making sure the cement arrives when the builders expect it. The walls are mostly covered with calendars and maps of the city. We don't have any fancy marketing materials or big signs. It’s just us doing our daily tasks. Some days it’s very quiet and we can get through the filing quickly, and other days it feels like everyone in Jamshedpur needs cement at the exact same moment. We try to keep things organized, but sometimes the paperwork piles up. It’s an honest way to make a living, and we’ve gotten to know the Tansa Road area really well over the months. The neighbors are mostly used to us by now. We just come in, do the work, and try to make sure everything runs as smooth as possible for the projects we’re handling. It’s nothing more than that.
