If you head down Kalwar Road in Jhotwara, you’ll find us easily enough. Vikram Teena Mishtan Bhandar has been sitting on this stretch for quite some time now. The traffic on Kalwar Road can be a real headache, especially in the evenings when everyone is heading home, but we’re used to the honking and the dust by now. We keep the glass cases filled with whatever we made fresh in the kitchen that morning. It’s a small shop, and sometimes the floor gets a little sticky when it’s busy, but we try to keep up with the cleaning. We aren't trying to be one of those high-end places you see in the city malls. We’re just a local bhandar where you can grab something quick. Most of our customers are people from the Jhotwara area who have been coming to us since they were little kids. We know their parents and now we see their own children coming in for a treat. The lights inside are a bit bright and the fans hum loudly, but it feels right for a place like this. We don't have a marketing team or anything; we just open the shutters in the morning and start working. There’s always someone in the back stirring a big pot. It’s hard work, and our aprons usually have a few stains by noon, but that’s just how it goes. We like being a regular part of people's daily routine here on the road.
