Vaishnav Jewel Co. has been here at 137, R.D. Lane on S.M.S. Highway for quite a long time now. Every morning starts about the same way, unlocking the heavy shutters and getting all the jewelry displays wiped down and set up. It’s a pretty busy spot with a lot of people walking by on their way to the highway, so there is always noise and movement outside our door. We handle various types of jewelry, doing some repairs on old pieces and selling some new ones too. People usually come in when they need a gift or if a favorite gold chain of theirs has snapped. It gets a bit dusty being so close to the main road, so we spend a lot of time cleaning the glass cases. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we first opened, but we have stayed right here in this same spot. Sometimes we sit and have tea with the shopkeepers nearby when the afternoon gets a bit quiet. We don’t have one of those big fancy showrooms you see in the malls, just our counters and some chairs for people to sit while they look at things. It’s a simple setup, but it works for us and the people who visit. Most of our regular customers know us by name by now. It is a small operation, just a couple of us making sure the work gets done. We keep things practical and stay focused on the day-to-day tasks. Most days we are just happy to see a friendly face.
