The Dhaba

Being in Johari Bazar is a lot of work because the crowd never seems to stop. We are tucked away at 1277, right near Gopal Ji Ka Rasta. If you’ve ever walked through Johri Bazaar in Jaipur, you know it's a mess of colors and people and bikes everywhere. Our place, The Dhaba, is right in the thick of it near Khow Walon Ka Chowk. It gets really hot in the afternoons and the smell of the market is always there. We open up early to get the pots going. There's always someone shouting outside or a rickshaw honking its horn. It’s not a quiet place at all. The floor is just a regular floor and the chairs are just chairs. We don't try to make it look like a palace because it's not. People come in with their shopping bags, looking tired from the sun, and they just want to sit for a minute. We serve them whatever is ready in the kitchen. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a bit, or we run out of something on the menu, but we just keep going. It’s a local spot for local people mostly. 302003 is a busy pin code and we are just one small part of the daily rush in the bazaar. We've been here long enough that the neighbors know us by name now.
