About Shri Shanker Gajak Bhandar – Food & Beverages in Jaipur
Our place, Shri Shanker Gajak Bhandar, is tucked into the Adarsh Nagar area of Raja Park. We are mostly known for our gajak and other traditional sweets. If you come by during the winter months, you can smell the roasted sesame and jaggery from down the street. It’s a very traditional process we use. We spend hours preparing the base and then hammering the gajak to get that perfect thin, crispy texture. It’s physical work and takes a lot of effort, but that is how it’s done. We also make various types of laddoos and til-patti. The shop gets very crowded during the festival seasons, especially around Makar Sankranti. People stand in lines to get their favorite sweets fresh. In the off-season, things are much quieter, and we might sell a few other items, but gajak is our main thing. The shop itself is quite old-fashioned. We have big metal trays piled high with different varieties. We don't use fancy packaging, just simple boxes that do the job. My family has been involved in this for a long time. We stay in Adarsh Nagar because the people here appreciate the traditional taste and know our name. It’s not a corporate business; it’s more of a family-run spot where we take pride in the way we make our sweets. It is dusty and busy, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
