Shree Shankar Misthan Bhandar

Our sweet shop is located on Tonk Road, right at Gandhi Nagar Mode C 3. We’ve been here for a long time, watching the road get busier every year. The mornings start very early for us, usually before the sun is even up, so we can get the milk boiling. We make a lot of different sweets, mostly the traditional kinds that people around here like for their morning tea or for taking home to their families. The smell of ghee is everywhere in the shop. It’s a small place, so it gets crowded during the festival seasons. People stand in line out the door sometimes. We don't have a fancy display, just the glass counters with the trays of laddoos and barfis. I’ve worked here since I was younger, and the routine is always the same. We clean the floors, set the trays, and wait for the first customers. Some people stop by every single day for their fix of something sweet. The traffic outside is always moving fast, but inside it’s a bit slower. We don’t use any big machines, mostly just our hands and big iron vats. It’s hard work and it gets hot in the kitchen, but it’s what we know. We don’t spend money on ads or anything. People just know where Shree Shankar is. We'll be here tomorrow morning doing the same thing again.
