Ruda Sand Stone Artisans Associations

Our association operates from the third floor of B Block in Yojna Bhawan on Tilak Marg. It is a government-style building, so the corridors are long and there is a lot of activity happening in the different departments around us. We work specifically with sand stone artisans, so our office is usually cluttered with different types of stone samples. You’ll see pieces of carved stone on the windowsills and different textures of rock sitting on the desks. We spend a lot of time talking to the craftsmen and the people who run the quarries. It is more about coordinating between the artisans and the projects that need their skills. The office itself is quite simple with basic desks and a lot of filing cabinets where we keep records of the different groups we work with. It isn't a fast-paced corporate environment. Things take time here, especially when you are dealing with handcrafted stone work. Sometimes people come in to look at the samples or to ask about how to get a specific type of carving done. We sit through a lot of meetings about how to keep the craft going and how to help the workers. The view from the third floor looks out over the busy street, but inside we are focused on the grit and detail of the stone industry. It’s a very specific kind of work that doesn't really fit into a standard business mold.
