Our place, Lotus Gallery, sits on Tonk Road at the Dev Nagar Corner 1. It’s a corner spot, which is nice because we get light from two sides. We have a lot of things on the walls and sitting on pedestals. Most of our day is spent dusting the frames and making sure everything looks straight. We’re not a big corporate gallery. It’s just a few of us here. We spend a lot of time talking to the artists who bring their work in. Some of them are quite picky about how their stuff is shown, which can be a bit of a headache. We have a back room where we keep extra stock and all the packing materials like bubble wrap and tape. It’s usually a mess back there. People walk in from the street, sometimes just to escape the heat or the noise of Tonk Road. They walk around, look at things, and sometimes they ask questions that we don’t always know the answer to right away. We have to be careful with the lighting because it can get expensive. The floor is tile and it shows every bit of dirt, so we’re always sweeping. We don’t have any big grand goals. We just like having these things around us and being part of the neighborhood. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except when a new shipment arrives and we have to find space for it.
