About Raja Ram Moorti Bhandar – Art & Craft in Jaipur
My family has been at Bhindo Ka Rasta for a long time. It’s a narrow lane in Chand Pole Bazar, and it gets really crowded during the day. Most people know us because of the noise from the hammers and chisels. We make marble statues here. It’s dusty work, and our clothes are usually white by the afternoon. My father started this small shop years ago, and I just took over because it’s what we do. We don't have a big office or anything fancy like that. There are just a few benches and the stone blocks lying around. Sometimes the light isn't great, but we get the work done. The second cross is where you find us. Customers come in, tell us what they need, and we figure it out. It’s not always easy work, especially when it gets hot in Jaipur, but we stay busy. We have a few guys helping us out with the heavy lifting and the polishing. We don't really do advertisements or anything. People just walk in from the market or hear about us from someone else. It's a simple setup. We just focus on the marble and making sure the shapes look right. Sometimes a piece takes longer than we thought, but that’s just how stone is. You can’t rush it or it might crack. We just keep at it every day from morning until the market closes up.
