You can find Raj Laxmi Misthan Bhandar over on Sahkar Marg, right on Sirsi Road. It’s a busy corner of the city. We spend our time back in the kitchen area, mostly stirring big pots of milk. Making sweets takes a lot of patience and steady heat. The air is usually thick with the smell of sugar and ghee. We don't have those big machines that do everything automatically. We still do a lot of it by hand, the way we learned. The front of the shop has glass cases where we put the fresh batches. They look nice, even if the shop itself is a bit plain. We have a few benches for people who want to eat right there. Most people just take a box and head home. During the big holidays, it gets really hectic. We stay up late to make sure there is enough for everyone. The floor gets a bit messy during the rush, but we clean it up at the end of the night. It’s a lot of hard work and the hours are long. We don't have any fancy mission statements. We just show up, make the sweets, and talk to the people who come in. It’s a regular life in a regular shop. We’ve been on Sirsi Road for years and we know the other owners around here.
