Laxmi Sweets is over at number 35 in the Amrapali Circle Shopping Centre. Vaishali Nagar is a busy area, and this shopping centre gets a lot of foot traffic throughout the day. We start quite early in the morning when the milk arrives. You can usually see the steam coming from the back where the big pans are kept. It’s a lot of manual work, stirring and checking the consistency of the sweets. The front of the shop has these glass display cases that we spend way too much time cleaning because of all the fingerprints. We don’t have a big corporate team or anything like that, just a few of us making sure the trays stay full. Sometimes we run out of certain items by the evening, especially during the festival months when everyone wants the same thing at once. The floor is usually a bit sticky no matter how many times we mop it, and the sound of the main road is always there in the background. We have some benches for people to sit on, but most folks just stand around and eat or take their boxes home. It’s a practical setup. We’ve been at this Vaishali Nagar location for a while, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythms of the neighborhood. It’s just a regular sweet shop doing the daily grind at shop 35. We don't use any fancy machines, just our hands.
