Kalakriti Art Gallery

Down here at A - 371 on Ajmer Road in Vidyut Nagar A, things are usually pretty quiet. We have Kalakriti Art Gallery set up in a space that gets some decent afternoon light through the windows. It’s a lot of walking around and hanging pictures on the walls, making sure they’re straight and looking okay. We spend quite a bit of time just cleaning the glass on the frames because the dust from Ajmer Road seems to find its way inside no matter what we do. The neighborhood of Vidyut Nagar is mostly residential, so we don't get huge crowds, just people who happen to be passing by or neighbors who like to look at what’s new. Sometimes we have artists stop by with their portfolios, and we sit on the old wooden chairs we have in the back to talk about their work. It’s not a big corporate gallery; it’s more of a personal project that grew over time. We have crates stacked in the corner for when we need to pack things up for shipping to someone’s house. The walls are a bit scuffed here and there from moving heavy frames around, but that’s just how it is when you’re working with art every day. We don't have a big staff, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. It’s a nice way to spend the day, surrounded by colors and quiet conversations while the city rushes by outside.
