About Jaipur Moorti Museum – Art & Craft in Jaipur
If you are looking for us, we are at 1798, 4Th Square, on Khunteton Ka Rasta. It’s deep in the old part of the city, so the streets are narrow and it’s always lively. We call it a museum but it’s really more of a place where we make and keep stone statues. My family has been working with marble for generations, so there is usually the sound of tapping or sanding coming from somewhere nearby. It’s a bit of a dusty environment because of all the stone work, so don’t wear your best clothes if you want to see the workshop area. We have everything from small figures for a home shelf to much larger pieces meant for gardens. We don't have a fancy website or a person to answer the phones with a script. Usually, one of us is just sitting near the door on a wooden stool. It’s a very practical way of doing things. We don't have air conditioning, just some big fans that keep the air moving. People come from all over to find specific types of moortis. We don't do any big advertising; people just find us by asking around the neighborhood. It’s a simple setup and we like it that way. The stone keeps the building a bit cooler than the street outside. We are just here every day, working on the next piece and making sure the shop stays open.
