Jaipur Boutique Carpet

Our place is located right behind Golimar Garden, inside Jaipur Mahal on Amer Road. It is a very traditional spot and you can feel the history of the area when you walk around here. Being in Kailash Puri means we see a lot of people passing by on their way to the bigger sights, but we are a bit tucked away from the main noise. Inside, the floors are mostly covered with carpets we are working on or showing to people who drop in. It is not a fancy boutique like the ones you see in shopping malls. We have piles of wool and silk around and the smell of the materials is always in the air. We spend a lot of time checking the knots and the colors of the rugs to make sure everything looks right. The light in the workshop is quite good because of the way the building is positioned. Sometimes the monkeys from the nearby trees come onto the roof, which can be a bit distracting during the day. We usually sit on the floor or on low stools while we work. It is a slow process making these things, so we do not rush the work. Most of the people who work here have been doing this for a long time. We drink a lot of chai and talk about the designs while we work. It is a very local way of doing things, and we prefer it that way.
