Ishwar Moorti Bhandar

Ishwar Moorti Bhandar is located at 2443 M I Road. We are tucked away in Khazanewalo Ka Rasta, right near the Bihari Ji Ke Mandir. If you know the temple, you can find us pretty easily. This area is famous for stone carvers and statues. We spend our days surrounded by marble and stone. There is white dust on almost every surface in the shop. We use hammers and chisels to shape the figures. It’s loud work and can get quite tiring on the arms. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, watching the street outside change while we stay the same. People come from all over to look at the idols we make. Some are small enough to fit in your hand and others are quite large and heavy. We don't have a fancy display. The statues just sit there on the floor or on simple wooden benches. It’s a bit crowded inside because we try to fit as much as we can. The air is always a bit thick with the smell of cut stone. We talk to the neighbors and drink tea while we take breaks. It’s a very old way of doing things but it works for us. We just keep carving and hope the stone doesn't crack. Every day is about the same routine here and we wouldn't have it any other way.
