We are located on the first floor in Indra Bazar. You have to come up the stairs at Kalyan Ji Ka Rasta, near Purohit Ji Ka Chowk. It’s a bit of a climb, but that’s where we do our work. Being in the middle of a busy bazaar means it’s never quiet. There is always the sound of people shopping and scooters buzzing around downstairs. Up here, it’s all about the moortis. We work with stone and marble, so everything is covered in a fine white dust. No matter how much we sweep, the dust always comes back by the afternoon. We wear masks sometimes, but mostly we just get used to it. Painting the details on the statues takes a lot of patience and a steady hand. My eyes get tired after a few hours of focusing on the small features. We have rows of finished and unfinished pieces sitting around. It’s a bit crowded. We aren't trying to be a big gallery. This is just where we carve and paint. Sometimes we have to move the heavy stone blocks up the stairs, which is a real chore and takes a few of us to manage. But once a piece is finished and cleaned up, it looks quite nice. We’ve been here for years, following the same routine every single day. It’s just what our family does. We take our time and focus on one piece at a time until the work is finished properly.
