Gopal Mehandi Art is right here in the Kiranpath Shopping Center at Baba Bzr. It's a small spot, S-3-4 on Madhyam Marg, but we make it work. Most days, we’re just sitting on our stools, waiting for someone who wants their hands done for a wedding or maybe just a small festival. Jaipur gets pretty hot, so the fan is always running in the corner. You can smell the henna as soon as you walk into this part of the market. We don't have much, just our cones and a few design books that are a bit worn out at the edges. People from around Jaipur know us because we’ve been at this address for quite a while now. Sometimes it’s quiet, and we just watch the traffic go by on Madhyam Marg. Other times, like during the wedding season, it’s so crowded you can barely move inside. We try to keep things simple here. We use the same dark henna we've always used. The chairs aren't the newest, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but it feels like home to us. We’ve seen kids grow up and come back for their own wedding mehandi. It’s just how things go in a local place like this. We don't do much talking unless the customer wants to chat about their day. It’s a basic shop where the work matters more than the fancy lights or anything like that. We usually stay open until the market closes at night.
