We are situated right at Balaji Mod on Jagatpura Road in Malviya Nagar. Anandji Sweets has been a part of this corner for a long time. Every morning we start early, usually around five, to begin boiling the milk for the day’s batch of sweets. The big vats take a while to heat up. We make things like ladoos, barfi, and gulab jamun. The display cases are filled up by the time the first customers arrive for their breakfast kachoris. It’s a busy intersection, so there is always a lot of dust and noise from the traffic. We try to keep the glass clean so people can see the food clearly. During festival times like Diwali or Holi, we don't sleep much. We have to bring in extra help just to handle the boxes. People stand in long lines out onto the pavement then. It’s a lot of work and the kitchen stays very hot from the fryers. We use the recipes that have been around since the shop first started. We don't really do fancy sugar-free stuff or modern desserts; we stick to the traditional ones. My hands are usually sticky with syrup by lunchtime. We take pride in the fact that the neighborhood knows us. It’s just a regular sweet shop, trying to get the orders right and keeping the milk fresh every single day for the people who stop by.
