Agra Petha Bhandar

You can find Agra Petha Bhandar at number 4, Gheewalon Ka Rasta, right in the middle of Johari Bazar. It’s a narrow lane but it is always full of life and people. We’ve been operating from this small space for quite a bit. The walls have been repainted a few times over the years, but the feel of the place is still exactly the same. We focus on petha because that’s what we know best and what our family has always done. Every day we get the raw materials delivered by the rickshaws. It’s a lot of heavy lifting. The shop isn't air-conditioned or anything fancy, so it gets quite hot in the summer months. We just drink plenty of water and keep working through it. Our customers are mostly locals who know the shortcuts through the bazar. We don’t have a website or any of that fancy social media stuff. If you want to see what we have, you just have to walk in and look. The scale sits on the counter and it’s seen a lot of use since we started. We wrap everything in plain paper or cardboard boxes. It’s straightforward and honest. We don't use any complicated recipes, just the old ways that were taught to us. It works for us. Living and working in Johari Bazar means you’re never bored. There’s always someone passing by the door. We like the connection we have with the street. It’s just a normal day at Gheewalon Ka Rasta 4.
