M. H. Rubber Seal

We are out at Ghosal Chowk in Belkulai, which is part of Uluberia. The work here is mainly about rubber. We make seals and gaskets that go into machines or pipes. It’s a smelly job because of the raw rubber heating up, but you get used to it after a week. The workshop is right near the main crossing, so there is always a lot of dust from the passing trucks. We have a few presses that run most of the day. It’s just us here, making sure the sizes are right and the rubber doesn't have any air bubbles. Uluberia is an industrial kind of place, so we fit right in with the other workshops around Ghosal Chowk. We don't have a fancy website or a big sign, just a steady flow of orders from local factories. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit outside and wait for it to come back on. It gives us a chance to talk to the neighbors. The floor is usually covered in little bits of black rubber that we have to sweep up every evening. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late. We don’t pretend to be anything we aren't, just a small shop providing parts that keep other machines running smoothly. We just try to get the measurements right the first time. The weather gets hot by the machines, but we deal with it.
