Divine Mercy School is right by 1 No Pull on the Howrah Amta Road. If you know Chak Kadamtala, you know it gets quite crowded with traffic and people going about their daily business. Our school is tucked in right there. It’s an old-fashioned sort of building with stairs that have seen a lot of feet over the years. We spend our mornings waiting for the kids to arrive through the main gate. Howrah is always humid, so the classrooms can get a bit sticky in the monsoon months. We have the usual desks, some maps on the walls, and cupboards full of old textbooks and supplies. The teachers here have been with us for a long time. We know the families in the neighborhood. Sometimes we have to shout a little over the sound of the horns from the Amta Road, but you eventually get used to it. We don't have a big fancy field, but the kids find space to play near the entrance or in the small side yard. We keep a close eye on the attendance registers and the homework books. It’s a lot of pen and paper work every single day. When it rains hard, the road outside gets big puddles, and we have to make sure everyone gets inside safely without getting too wet. We don't have any big corporate backing or fancy gadgets, it’s just us doing what we can. We follow the local curriculum and try to make sure the kids actually understand their lessons. It’s a busy, noisy, real place to work.
