Out here in Kalamnuri, we put together Shetkari Swarajya Seva Pratishthan Farmer Producer Company Limited because we wanted something of our own that we could control. We are located right in the Hingoli district. It is a quiet place for the most part, but we stay busy with the day-to-day work of the farm business. Everyone knows each other in this part of Maharashtra, so word travels fast. We did not want to rely on those big companies from the city, so we just set this up ourselves. It is mostly just us trying to figure out the best way to handle our produce and get it to the market without running into too many problems along the way. Sometimes the weather is against us, and sometimes the market prices are low, but we keep going regardless. Our office is simple and there is nothing special to look at, just a place to keep our tools and our papers safe. We spend our mornings talking about the crops and our afternoons getting things loaded onto the trucks or sorted. It takes a lot of effort to keep everything running, and we do not always get it right the first time. We learn as we go. There are a few of us who take care of the management side, but we are all farmers at heart. We just want to make sure the work we do in the fields actually pays off for our families.
