Asht Shaheed Farmer Producer Company Limited is based in Vill-Karaila, right near the Ram Janki Mandir. If you go to Po Sahedinavapurwa and ask for Sateesh Rai, someone will point you in the right direction. We started this company because we wanted to do something for the farmers in our village. The name is important to us because of the history of our people. It’s a very practical operation. We don't have any high-tech equipment or a fancy boardroom. Mostly, we meet up near the temple or at Sateesh’s house to talk about the season's yield. We try to help the members get a better price for their produce by selling it together instead of one by one. It’s a lot of coordination, and honestly, it’s quite stressful sometimes when the trucks don't show up or the market prices drop suddenly. We spend a lot of time on the phone or just walking from one farm to another to check on things. We’re not business experts by any means. We are just people who grew up here and know every inch of these fields. Sometimes we struggle with the regulations and all the official stuff we have to do now that we are a company, but we’re doing our best. It’s honest work, and it keeps us busy from sunrise to sunset. We just hope to make things a little more stable for the next generation of farmers here in Karaila.
