Shri J C Joshi High School

We have been here in Dehgam for a long time now. Shri J C Joshi High School is just a regular building on the street, really. Every morning, you see the students coming in from the nearby villages and the Gandhinagar side too. The gate is a bit old and it creaks when the watchman opens it at 7:30. We don’t have anything fancy here, just rows of wooden benches and those big blackboards that need a lot of chalk. Some of the windows don’t stay open properly unless you prop them up with a stick. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, but the fans keep things moving. We usually sit in the staff room during the break, drinking tea and talking about the weather or how the local bus was late again. The walls are painted a pale yellow, but they’ve seen better days with all the fingerprints and scuff marks from the kids. It’s just how it is. We go through the lessons, the kids play in the yard during the short break, and then everyone heads home to their families. Dehgam is a quiet enough place, and our school is just a part of that daily rhythm. There is nothing complicated about it. We just show up, do the work, and hope the children learn something useful before the final bell rings at the end of the day.
