Shree Swastik High School

Dehgam is a quiet corner of the Gandhinagar area, and our school is situated right in the heart of it. We have a fairly large building that has seen many generations of students pass through its doors. The playground is mostly dirt and packed earth, which gets a bit muddy when the rains come to Gujarat, but the kids don't seem to mind much. Inside, the classrooms are high-ceilinged and usually a bit echoey. We have the usual wooden desks and benches, some with names carved into them from years ago. The staff here is a small group of people who have mostly lived in Dehgam their whole lives. We don't have a lot of administrative staff, so the teachers end up doing a lot of the paperwork themselves. It’s a very hands-on way of running a school. The morning assembly is usually the highlight of the day when everyone is together before they head off to their separate subjects. We don't use any fancy marketing or try to look like a corporate office. It’s just a school with four walls and a roof where we try to teach the kids what’s in the books. On hot afternoons, the whole place feels a bit sleepy, but we keep pushing through until the final bell rings at the end of the day. It’s a simple, honest life for everyone here and we like it that way.
