Our shop is at number 2 in the V.M.C. Complex, right on Sathi Main Road. It is a good spot because people can see us as they drive by, though parking can be a bit of a headache during the afternoon rush. Inside, the walls are lined with rolls of fabric in every color you can think of. We do not have a big fancy showroom; it is just stacks of cloth and a long wooden counter where we measure everything out. You can hear the sound of heavy scissors cutting through cotton or polyester all day long. Sometimes we have bits of thread stuck to our clothes, and there is always a layer of lint on the glass displays. Customers come in looking for something specific for a dress or a shirt, and we spend time pulling down different bolts of fabric until they find the right one. The lighting is a bit bright, but it helps to see the patterns clearly. We have an old fan that wobbles a little, but it keeps the air moving when the shop gets full of people. We keep a ledger on the desk to write down the sales, and there is usually a half-empty water bottle sitting nearby. It is just a local business on a busy road, trying to keep things organized and making sure people get the fabric they need without too much fuss. We just take it one customer at a time.
