The Erode Weavers' Co-Op. P & S Socty Ltd.

Being part of The Erode Weavers' Co-Op. P & S Socty Ltd. is different from a regular company. We are located on Kovalan Street, at No. K 1216, and it’s a place where everyone knows each other’s business. The sound of the looms is like a heartbeat for this street. We have a lot of members, all weavers who have been doing this for generations. Managing the society means dealing with a lot of different personalities and many handwritten ledgers. The office isn't much to look at, just some wooden benches and a couple of old fans that squeak. We spend a lot of time talking to the weavers about their yarn needs or their latest batches of cloth. The building is old and the walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but it works for what we need. Sometimes the monsoon makes the street muddy, and it’s hard to get the finished goods moved out. We don’t use any fancy management software; it’s mostly just us keeping track of things on paper and trusting the people we’ve worked with for decades. It’s slow work compared to the big factories, but we’re used to the pace. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for the dyeing units to send back the fabric. It’s a long process.
