About Sree Emu Farms – Agriculture & Farming in Erode
If you drive down Erode Road to Vijayamangalam, you’ll find us at number 102. It’s a big open space because emus need room to move around. They are funny birds, always curious and poking their heads into things. Working with them isn't like working with chickens. They are much bigger and can be a handful when they get excited. We spend a lot of our time out in the sun, fixing fences or filling up water troughs. The dust from the road gets everywhere, especially when the wind picks up. It’s a lot of routine work. You feed them, you clean up, you check on the younger ones. We don't have a big office or a fancy website. If you want to see us, you just come to the farm and find us in the yard. My boots are usually covered in mud or dirt, and my shirt is soaked with sweat by midday. It’s honest work though. People in Vijayamangalam know us as the emu folks. Sometimes people stop their cars just to look at the birds because they aren't something you see every day. We’ve been doing this for a while and we’ve learned a lot about what the birds need. It’s not always easy, especially when the weather is dry, but we manage somehow. We just take it one day at a time and keep the birds healthy and happy enough to stay quiet.
