National Poultry Farms

National Poultry Farms is out here in Thangamedu, specifically at No. 54. It’s a bit of a drive into Kanjikovil but we like the space we have. Working with birds means you’re up before the sun most days. There is always a lot of noise from the chickens and the smell of feed is something you never really stop smelling. We spend a lot of time cleaning out the pens and making sure the water lines are working right. It’s physical work and your clothes usually get dirty within the first hour. Perudurai is a decent area for this kind of thing. We have a lot of space for the trucks to come in and out. Sometimes the feed delivery is late and that throws the whole day off, but we manage. It’s not a polished corporate job with meetings and suits. It’s mostly just us in boots and old shirts. We have to keep a close eye on everything because things can change fast with live animals. The weather affects the birds quite a bit, so we’re always checking the temperature. We don’t spend much time in the office, mostly we are out in the sheds. It’s a basic life but it keeps us busy. People from around here know us as the poultry spot on the corner. We just keep our heads down and do the work that needs doing every single morning.
