Mother Mary School

Mother Mary School is located on Karur Road in Modakurichi, which is out towards the edge of Erode. It’s a bit of a drive from the main city center. The school sits right along the road, so we see all the trucks and buses going by all day. We have a gate and a small fence to keep the noise and dust out as much as possible. Inside, the classrooms are simple with tiled floors and fans. We teach children of various ages here. The morning starts with the sound of the school bus pulling in. We have a few buses that go out to the villages around Modakurichi to pick up the kids. The teachers come in early to get the boards ready. We don't have a lot of expensive stuff, just the basics like benches, desks, and a few sports items for the kids to use at break. Lunchtime is a noisy affair with everyone opening their tiffin boxes. You can smell the different curries in the air. We have a small playground with some dirt and a little bit of grass where the boys play football when it isn't too hot. Most of our staff have been with us for a long time. They know how to handle the rowdy ones. It is a plain, hardworking school. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We just provide a place for local families to send their children for an education.
