Vacha Farms Private Limited

If you go down to Pulincunnoo in Kerala, you will find us at Vachaparambil. This is where Vacha Farms is based. It is a very wet and green part of the state, so our farming is always tied to the water. We are a private company, but really it is just a few of us looking after the land here. We grow what the soil likes, which usually means things that don’t mind a lot of rain. The house and the farm are one and the same for us. We don't drive to an office in the morning; we just step outside and start working. It is a lot of physical labor, keeping the weeds down and making sure the crops are doing okay. The air is always a bit damp, and in the monsoon, everything turns into a bit of a muddy mess, but that is just how life is in Pulincunnoo. We don't have a marketing team or any fancy equipment. We use what we have and try to be as practical as possible. Sometimes we sit on the porch and talk about the next harvest while watching the water in the canals. It is a slow pace of life compared to the cities, but there is always something to do. We are just local people who have been on this land for a long time. We don't plan on changing much, just keeping the farm going as best as we can. It’s quiet and hard work, but it’s our life.
