Trinity Trading

Lakshmi House is an old building on Willingdon Island, and we’ve been here for a while now. It has that specific smell of the port—salt and old wood and maybe some diesel from the ships. Being on the island feels different than being in the middle of Ernakulam. It’s a bit quieter, though you still hear the cranes and the horns from the harbor. Our office is pretty basic. We have a few desks that have seen better days and a lot of filing cabinets that are overflowing with old records. Trading is mostly just about staying on top of the phone calls and making sure the paperwork is in order before the docks close for the day. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit there waiting for it to come back, talking about whatever is in the news. We aren't trying to change the world or anything. We just trade what needs trading and try to make sure everything gets where it’s supposed to go. The floor is made of old stone that stays cool even when the sun is beating down outside. Visitors sometimes get lost looking for Lakshmi House because the signs around here aren't the best. We just tell them to look for the big tree near the gate. It’s a steady job in a steady place. We usually close up early on Saturdays to beat the bridge traffic back home. Trinity Trading is just a small part of the island life.
