Our business is at Xvi/453 in the Thoppumpady Kazhuthumuttu area. Being so close to the water means we get a lot of sea air, and you can often hear the horns from the ships in the distance. The building is a sturdy one, which is good because the weather can get quite rough during the rainy season. We do trade work, so our office is usually full of samples and boxes that we are checking before they go out. It is not a very tidy place, but we know where everything is. We have a few desks and some chairs for visitors, but most people who come by are just delivery drivers or local traders. We don't have an intercom or anything like that; people just knock on the heavy front door. The floor is made of old tiles that have seen a lot of wear over the years. We have a small fridge for keeping water cold and a stove for making tea when the afternoon slump hits. It is a very practical setup and we don't spend money on things we don't need. Most of our day is spent on the phone or checking through invoices to make sure the numbers add up. We have a good relationship with the other businesses on the street and we often help each other out with loading or extra space. It is a simple life and we just keep our heads down and work.
