South India Produce Co. is located in Jew Town, specifically at P.B. No. 344. This part of the city is known for its old buildings and the long history of the spice trade. Our structure is a bit aged, but it serves our purpose just fine. Most mornings are spent dealing with various produce coming in from the countryside. Moving sacks and checking the quality takes up a lot of our physical energy. Around here, the air always has that heavy, lingering scent of dried ginger and black pepper. You eventually get used to it after a few weeks on the job. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a big corporate office with glass doors. It’s mostly just us, a few desks, and plenty of storage space for the inventory. Years of boots and trolleys moving across the floors have worn them down. When the rain hits Kerala, things get difficult, especially during truck loading in the narrow streets. Those roads get very crowded and noisy with all the tourists and local traders pushing past. We try to focus on getting the work done and making sure the produce is handled correctly. It’s a straightforward business without any of those modern frills people expect these days. Most of our days are spent checking ledgers or talking to suppliers. Having been here for a long time, we know the routine inside out. It is just what we do every day to keep things moving.
