We are based in Kaloor, which is a pretty central and busy part of the city. Being here makes it easier to handle the export and import work that we do every day. The office is located in an older building and has a very traditional feel to it. We have heavy wooden desks and plenty of steel cupboards filled with years of paperwork and shipping records. There is always a lot of talk about container schedules and customs clearances. The humidity in Kaloor can be quite high, so we usually have the fans on full speed. It is not a quiet office; there is always someone on the phone or a courier dropping off documents. We have a small balcony that looks out over the street where we can see the rain during the monsoon months. We do not have a fancy lobby or a receptionist, so people usually just knock and come in. Most of the staff has been with us for a long time, so there is a lot of shared history in these rooms. We have our own way of doing things, and it usually involves a lot of manual checking of invoices. In the afternoon, someone usually goes out to get snacks for everyone from the local bakery. It is a steady, reliable place where the work never really stops but we keep a calm pace.
