Geo Sea Foods

Our office is down in Thoppumpady at P.B. No. 906. Being near the water means the air always has that salty, fishy smell, which you get used to after a while. At Geo Sea Foods, we are busy from very early in the morning when the catch comes in. The whole area around Thoppumpady is centered on the sea, and we are right in the middle of it. We spend a lot of time checking the fish and shrimp to see how fresh they are. It involves a lot of ice and cold storage to keep everything fresh. The floor is often wet, and everyone wears heavy boots to keep their feet dry. We don't have much of a front office; it’s mostly just space for processing and packing. It’s a hectic environment, especially when a big boat comes in and we have to move fast. Sometimes the humidity is really high, making the work feel even tougher. We just focus on getting the seafood packed up and sent out to wherever it needs to go. It’s honest work, even if it’s a bit messy and cold. Most of us have been working with fish for a long time, so we know what we are doing without needing to talk about it much. We just show up and handle the day's catch as it arrives at the docks.
