College Of Marine Technology

The college is tucked away on Ksn Menon Road in the Ravipuram area of Kochi. Being so close to the water in Kerala makes sense for what we do here. Most of the guys coming in are looking to get their sea legs and learn the technical side of working on ships. It’s a busy part of Perumanoor, and you can always hear the traffic outside while the instructors are talking about engines or navigation. The building has been here for a bit, and it shows in some corners, but it works for us. We spend our mornings going over manuals and the afternoons are usually more hands-on. It’s not like those big fancy universities with huge parks; we are a bit cramped but it feels like a real workplace. Students come from all over the state, staying in nearby hostels and walking over in the mornings. Sometimes the humidity in Kochi is really something, especially in the labs, but we just keep the fans going. It’s a practical place for people who actually want to work at sea. No one here is looking for a luxury experience. We just try to get the training done right so the students can pass their certifications and get out on the ships. You can see the ambition in their eyes when they talk about leaving the port for the first time. It is a lot of hard work, but we are used to that routine.
