St Joseph Public School

St Joseph Public School is situated on University Road in the Thrikkakara area of Ernakulam. Being near the university means there is always a lot of traffic and people moving about. We have our own gate and a yard where the students gather. Every morning starts with the same routine of opening up the gates and watching the kids walk in with their heavy bags. Some come by bus and others get dropped off right at the front. Our teachers live nearby or commute from other parts of Ernakulam, so everyone knows the local roads well. The school building is a practical structure that has been part of this community for years. Inside, it's the usual mix of chalk dust, wooden desks, and the sound of voices coming from every room. We spend a lot of time on maintenance, like painting the walls when they get scuffed or fixing the fans during the humid months. It isn't a quiet place, but that is expected when you are dealing with a public school. We focus on getting through the syllabus and making sure the kids stay on task. There are no grand speeches here, just the daily work of teaching and managing the grounds. At the end of the day, when the bells ring, the whole place empties out fast. We lock up, check the windows, and get ready to do it all again the next morning. It’s just how things work here. Most of the staff has been around for a long time, so we have seen many different groups of students come and go. We know which hallways get the most noise and which classrooms stay the coolest in the afternoon sun.
